Raja has been able to garner support for itself by putting up a show that is not just about football but also has a strong social message. Through its foundation, it carries out activities that are aimed at empowering children and young people towards success, letting them discover sports and helping them realize their dreams. With over 250 artists, real horses and camels, a meticulous replica of Shaniwar Wada and captivating background music, Raja has been able to transport spectators back to the 17th century. It has been able to successfully capture the essence of Shivaji's life. One of the most popular episodes is when the Maratha king tears apart Afzal Khan, the commander of the Bijapur Sultanate and Aurangzeb's uncle with his steel claws.

It has been able to capture various important incidents in the history of the Maratha king like his pledge of sovereignty, years of struggle and finally his rise to power as a king. Rabindranath Tagore's theatrical Raja play imagination blended with his socialist political ideology seamlessly in the play Raja. He had discussed the nature of ideal governance and the importance of rural self-empowerment in his work. He had actually started working for the poor in his estates and had implemented several socialistic programmes braving various oppositions. This experience got reflected in the script of Raja.
